Teeth malocclusion issues treatable by Invisalign
Invisalign® can makeover your smile and correct a number of malocclusion issues during treatment. A dental malocclusion occurs when your teeth haven’t developed in proper alignment and do not meet together when you bite. Achieving normal occlusion means you’ll have perfectly aligned teeth, improved biting & chewing ability for better digestion, and a lower risk of future dental problems.
Four main types of moderate malocclusion that can be corrected by Invisalign® include:
1. Overbites
Overbites occur when your top front teeth extend in front of your bottom front teeth.
2. Underbites
Under bites occur when your bottom front teeth extend in front of your top front teeth.
3. Cross bites
Cross bites occur when some of your upper front teeth sit behind your bottom front teeth.
4. Open bites
Open bites occur when your top and bottom teeth do not meet when you bite leaving a space inbetween.
Are you a suitable candidate for Invisalign®?
Invisalign treatment is suitable for treating minor to moderate teeth alignment issues in teens and adults. It may not replace traditional metal braces – especially for more severe malocclusion issues. We recommend an informed Invisalign consultation. Our Invisalign certified dentists can assess your teeth alignment issues & discuss your teeth straightening needs to determine if Invisalign is right for you.
There are a few other criteria for successful Invisalign patients:
- You have to commit yourself to Invisalign treatment and be prepared to wear clear aligners for at least 20 to 22 hours per day.
- You need to have healthy teeth and gums prior to treatment. If you have periodontal issues or gum disease, you’ll need to have these conditions treated successfully before Invisalign treatment.
- You must have good oral care and hygiene habits after meals and before putting back the removable clear aligners.

Invisalign® Health Fund Rebates
Yes, Invisalign is covered by certain health funds! If you have orthodontic extras cover, you can get a rebate.
Just ask your consulting CSD dentist for the Invisalign treatment numbers, and check with your health fund provider to get an accurate rebate amount and out-of-pocket costs. Annual limits on offer by health funds vary so shop around if you want a better deal. Keep in mind the 12-month waiting period if you’re buying a policy for the first time.
